Mission Study Task Force Transportation Study
One essential element within the mission study analysis is to evaluate the transportation access of state-supported clientele to the college system campuses (main campus and off-campus satellite locations) by mission area, as determined by location (clientele to college), transportation and demographic characteristics of that access, or non access. The mission areas are divided into several student categories. Two key elements of this analysis include:
Part I
The graphs and maps from Part I show state-supported students’ average commute times in each region (and distribution of commute times) to existing campuses and satellite locations. Only students with a street address in 2007-08 are shown, excluding International students, Worker Retraining students, students not on campus or satellite locations and eLearning only. Students are broken out into the following categories :
Students Grouped by Type of Student:
ESL – Students enrolled in at least one ESL Basic Skills course.
ABE\GED - Students enrolled in at least one ABE or GED Basic Skills course who are not enrolled in an ESL Basic Skills Course.
College Level – Students with less than an Associate’s degree and not enrolled in Basic Skills courses.
AA+ - Students who have previously earned an Associate’s degree or higher.
Students Grouped by Demographics and Student Characteristics:
High SES – Students in all subgroups who are in the two highest quintiles of the socio-economic status (SES) based on the Census 2000 block groups.
Low SES– Students in all subgroups who are in the two lowest quintiles of the socio-economic status (SES) based on the Census 2000 block groups.
Day - Students from all subgroups who attended courses during the day at the main campus or satellite location.
Evening - Students from all subgroups of Part 1 who are attending courses during the evening at the main campus or satellite location.
Part II
Maps from Part II show students’ mapping of home location in relation to college attended for those not in Part I because they attend through online eLearning courses only. Frequency tables are not included for Part II analysis.
