With the support of Governor Gregoire, this week provides an opportunity for ABE providers and partners to increase public awareness and understanding about adult basic education and the way it assists Washington state to meet its economic and workforce goals.  Adult Literacy Week activities target the thinking and talking public .

This project is supported by the state’s Adult Education Advisory Council and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

Goals for Adult Literacy Week activities are to:

  • Enlighten students to the opportunities that are available to them as they grow and learn.
  • Increase awareness of the benefits of adult basic education and its benefits to the community and state.
  • Increase awareness of adult literacy programs in the community.
  • Increased awareness of literacy among elected officials.
  • Increased visibility of programs, both in the community and within the college.
  • Raise public awareness of the challenges and issues of adult literacy.
