eLearning Collaborations
WashingtonOnline (WAOL) is a consortium of the 34 community and technical colleges in Washington. WAOL was funded by WACTC in 1997 with the goal of increasing access to learning for students in the state. The original goals of the project were to fund colleges to develop 20 courses that constitute an AA degree and develop a technology system so that enrollments in those courses could be shared by all colleges. Since then, WAOL has developed over 60 courses with system dollars and now supports hundreds of online courses for colleges in the system.
The WAOL student Web site includes a searchable catalog of online courses across the system in addition to other resources useful to online students. http://www.waol.org

Telecourses – Many community and technical colleges in Washington offer their students the option of taking college credit courses as a telecourse, a course delivered via videotapes. Telecourses are generally designed for students who cannot attend traditional on-campus classes and include videotaped lessons, a textbook, and a student study guide. Telecourse students work independently by watching the video programs and reading the course textbook at home. Faculty guidance is available by phone, email, mail, or through occasional class meetings. Just as with on-campus classes, students taking a telecourse enroll at the college offering the course, pay tuition, have access to all student services, and receive academic credit.
