Common Course Numbering Project

The Common Course Numbering Project includes courses in the Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) and courses that comprise professional and technical programs over the 100 level.

The Common Course Numbering does not include developmental education or Basic Skills (ABE,GED, ESL or High School Completion).

Common Course Numbering included changes to the Dept/Div abbreviation, the course number, and the title. Each college may use the colon (:) after the title and use the remaining 25 characters as a part of the title.

Background

The project to commonly number community and technical college courses was directed by the presidents of the Washington community and technical colleges with leadership from the Washington State Instruction and Student Services commissions and support from the State Board for Community and Technical College.

The initial project's scope was limited to academic transfer courses as defined by the Intercollege Relations Council (ICRC) agreement (Appendix B of the ICRC Handbook, pages 22-25).

In fall 2010 the Instruction Commission of Washington approved the first professional and technical common course numbers associated with an aerospace program.
