State higher education boards plan joint meeting in Seattle
OLYMPIA – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and the Higher Education Coordinating Board have scheduled a joint meeting for Monday, Nov. 15, in Seattle, to discuss the challenges facing Washington state as it attempts to expand post-secondary education opportunities for students.
The boards will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday in Room A of the Jerry Brockey Student Center at South Seattle Community College, 6000 16th Ave. SW.
A discussion titled “Access to college: The size and shape of Washington’s higher education system” is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. Staff of the SBCTC and HECB will make a presentation on the evolution of Washington’s public higher education system and challenges for the future, which will be followed by a discussion among the board members.
The SBCTC is a nine-member citizen board that oversees the state’s 34 public two-year colleges. The HECB is a 10-member citizen board charged with representing the broad public interest to develop state higher education policy. The HECB also administers all state student financial aid programs.
The meeting is open to the public.
