Community and technical college board plans strategic directions for the future

OLYMPIA – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet to discuss strategic priorities, the two-year colleges’ role in economic development, current legislative activities, and the legislative budget request for the next biennium.

“The State Board will spend considerable time over these two days focusing on our future,” said Earl Hale, State Board executive director. “The topics are appropriate, as the State Board leadership changes.”

This will be Hale’s last State Board meeting before he retires. Charlie Earl, current president of Everett Community College, will become the new executive director as of February 1.

At their business meeting, the State Board will consider approval of the Transition Math Project Report, and a modification of the student progress policy guidelines to encourage more comprehensive academic advising and career planning. The Board will also hear a review of fall 2005 enrollment trends.

A study session will be held from 1:30-5 p.m. on January 17. The Board will conduct regular business from 8:45 to 11:45 p.m. on January 18. These sessions will take place in the Snyder Conference Room at the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, 319 SE 7th Ave, Olympia, WA. The board has scheduled a dinner meeting Tuesday with State Board staff. No official business will be conducted. All meetings are open to the public.
