Community and technical college board to focus on the future

OLYMPIA – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on October 18 and 19 to prepare for the Board’s future capital budget requests, and learn about new data related to enrollment and economic trends.

The Board will receive information about the planning process for the 2009-11 capital budget request, which will begin soon with ranking criteria. New study results will also be released to the board that help determine the socioeconomic status of two-year college students and those who do not attend two-year colleges.

“This meeting will be focused on looking toward the future,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said. “Using new data and system-wide planning, we hope to find ways to serve more underserved students throughout our colleges.”

The Board will conduct a work session on October 18 to review the office budget and work plan and its legislative platform. Olympic College will make a presentation on their upcoming applied bachelor’s degree in nursing. The Board will also engage in messaging training with State Board staff.

During the regular meeting, the State Board will consider approving a locally-financed capital project at Columbia Basin College, and the office budget and work plan. At this meeting, the State Board will hear the socioeconomic report and review future capital budget priorities. Everett Community College will give a presentation as the host college. An executive session is scheduled to consider the selection of a site or the acquisition of real estate by lease or purchase.

The Board’s study session is scheduled from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on October 18. The regular meeting is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on October 19. All meetings will take place at the Everett Community College White Horse Hall, Room 105, 2000 Tower Street, Everett. From 5:30 to 8 p.m. on October 18, the Board will have a reception and dinner with the Everett Community College trustees and staff at Everett Community College, White Horse Hall, Room 105.
