Community and technical college board studying tuition and high school to college transitions
OLYMPIA –The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on November 29 and 30 to review tuition policy options and several high school to college transition programs.
The Board will hear a presentation from Dr. Donald E. Heller, an associate professor and senior research associate at the Center for the Study of Higher Education at Pennsylvania State University. Heller will discuss tuition policy options as part of the Board’s in-depth tuition study.
“The State Board is committed to making informed decisions about tuition policies,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said. “Dr. Heller will bring invaluable information from a national perspective about tuition policies and their effect on students.”
The Board’s work session on November 29 will also include a presentation by Ann Daley, Washington Learns’ executive director, and a review of the Board’s system direction data and task forces. State Board staff will provide information about four high school to college transition programs available to students across the state.
During the regular meeting on November 30, the State Board will consider an alternatively financed building at Green River Community College, a property acquisition at Everett Community College and retirement plan investment options. Consistent with the Board’s system direction, it will also consider approving legislative policy principles, which will guide the system during the legislative session. Bates Technical College will give a presentation as the host college.
The Board’s study session is scheduled from 1:30 to 5:15 p.m. on November 29. The regular meeting is scheduled from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. on November 30. All public meetings will take place at the Bates Technical College Downtown Campus, Clyde Hupp Board Room, 1101 South Yakima Avenue, Tacoma. From 6:30 to 8 p.m. on November 29, the Board will hold an executive session during dinner to discuss the executive director evaluation at C.I.
