Community and technical college board to consider funding options

OLYMPIA –The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on May 9 and 10 to discuss the 2008 operating budget and tuition rates.

“The State Board will review its options in allocating the new and existing funds from the Legislature for the 2008 operating budget,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said. “The Board will also consider options for tuition rates, given the Legislature’s approval to increase tuition up to 2 percent.”

The work session on May 9 is scheduled for discussion about the ways the State Board can allocate funds to further its goals, including listening to a panel of college presidents who will give their perspective and recommendations regarding fiscal year 2008 allocations and tuition increases.

During the regular meeting on May 10, the State Board will consider approving a zoning application for property at Big Bend Community College and a property acquisition at Bellevue Community College. The Board will get an update on the activities of three of the State Board task forces, and Grays Harbor College will make a presentation as the host college.

The study session is scheduled from 1 to 5:15 p.m. on May 9. The Board will conduct an executive session from 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. to review the performance of the executive director. The regular meeting is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on May 10. All public meetings will take place at Grays Harbor College, Library Building, Room 1512, 1620 Edward P.
