Community and technical college board to distribute dollars to colleges

OLYMPIA –The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on May 22 to determine how funds from the state will be allocated to the 34 two-year colleges.

“The Legislature and Governor deserve significant praise for investing in the students at two-year colleges,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said. “The State Board has carefully reviewed the intent and purpose of new state funds, and is prepared to allocate money to the local colleges that will meet local needs as well as develop strategic initiatives that serve the whole state.”

The Board will approve the operating budget allocations and tuition rates for the 2007-08 fiscal year. The Board will approve the capital budget allocations for the 2007-09 fiscal years. The Legislature and Governor gave the Board authority to increase tuition up to 2 percent. In addition, the Board will consider a resolution to update and expand its 10-year strategic system direction.

The public meeting is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on May 22 at Highline Community College in the Library Building #25, 5th Floor Board Room, 2400 South 240th St., Des Moines.
