Community and technical college Board acts on programs and contracts for the upcoming school year
OLYMPIA – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on June 20 and 21 to act on a variety of allocations and contracts for the upcoming school year at the 34 two-year colleges.
A significant amount of activity has gone into determining how targeted funds would be allocated to the two-year colleges,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said. “Now the State Board is ready to take action to fund a variety of programs for the next academic year.”
On June 21 the Board will consider approving contacts with the Association of Washington Business, the Washington State Labor Council, the Department of Corrections, the Center for Information Services and Blackboard, as well as a property acquisition by Bellevue Community College. The Board will consider approving criteria from which to select two community or technical colleges to pilot a program serving high school students who have met all graduation requirements except passing the WASL. Over $10 million will be awarded to 34 community and technical colleges and 12 community-based organizations to increase access and outcomes for adult basic education students. The Board will award over $40 million of federal funds to all two-year colleges, four community-based organizations, three private career schools, and a consortia of colleges and high schools for workforce training.
In addition, the Board will discuss the system’s supplemental budget request for 2008 and receive an update on its task forces. The Board will consider delegating authority to the chair to complete the executive director’s evaluation and employment contract terms. It will also take action on electing a chair and vice chair of the Board for 2007-08.
