Community and technical college board to consider TUITION RELIEF FOR STORM VICTIMS AND RECOMMENDATION FOR MATH READINESS
OLYMPIA – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will hold a special meeting Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to consider authorizing local colleges to provide temporary tuition relief for students in areas declared disaster areas by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Board will also consider making a recommendation to the Washington State Board of Education that the third year of high school math be at a level that qualifies high school graduates to enroll in college-level math at the community and technical colleges. This will include opportunities to learn math in applied contexts.
“The Board is looking for ways to help victims of the recent storms by removing the burden of tuition while they are rebuilding their lives,” Executive Director Charlie Earl said.
Two-year colleges affected by the tuition action include Centralia College, Grays Harbor College, Olympic College and South Puget Sound Community College.
Board members will participate in the meeting via telephone. Space will be available for the public session at the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, Olympus Room, 403, 1300 Quince Street SE, Olympia.
