Governor appoints Shaunta Hyde to community and technical college board

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Shaunta R. Hyde, Lake Forest Park, has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire as the newest member of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

Hyde, government relations manager for The Boeing Company, previously served as government relations liaison for the office of King County Executive Ron Sims and as senior assistant to the Metropolitan King County Council chief of staff.

“Shaunta Hyde’s experience and expertise will be extremely valuable as Washington’s community and technical colleges pursue initiatives to meet the demand for a well-educated workforce and achieve increased educational attainment for all Washingtonians,” said Erin Mundinger, SBCTC board chair.

Hyde has been appointed to serve a four-year term as one of nine members of the Board, responsible for overall policy, leadership and strategic direction of the community and technical college system.

She replaces Reuven Carlyle, who resigned upon his election to the Legislature.

Board appointments must be approved by action of the State Senate, expected in the next scheduled legislative session.

"Education at the community and technical college level has never been more critical to our state’s future workforce,” Hyde said. “I am excited to serve the students of our state in this capacity.”

She currently serves on the boards of Pioneer Human Services, Kent Chamber of Commerce, Manufacturing Industrial Council and the Southwest King County Chamber. Previously, Hyde served on the Seattle Chamber of Commerce Urban Enterprise Center, Center for Humans Services, SeaTac Economic Partnership Committee, as well as the Chambers of Commerce for Auburn and Renton.

Hyde was honored as a top ‘40 Under 40’ in 2006 by the Puget Sound Business Examiner, received the Community Leadership Award from the Renton Chamber of Commerce in 2004, and was named Volunteer of the Year by the Center for Human Services in 2002.

Hyde earned an executive MBA from the University of Washington’s Michael G. Foster School of Business and a bachelor’s degree from Seattle University.
