Community and technical college board to consider weatherization training program contract and student achievement grants
OLYMPIA, Wash. – The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet Friday, Sept. 25 for its regular business meeting to consider approval of contracts and grants related to a weatherization training program and student achievement initiatives.
The meeting will be held 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the SBCTC office, Cascade conference room, 1300 Quince Street SE, Olympia.
The Board will consider entering into a contract with the Department of Commerce for the Low-Income Weatherization Training Program, which will provide $2.7 million to community and technical colleges for employee training for weatherization network providers of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The funding comes from the Department of Commerce’s contract with the Department of Energy and was made possible with additional funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The board will consider approval of two grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Ford Foundation for the Washington State Student Completion Initiative, which will focus on efforts to expand access and success in high-enrollment courses, reform precollege math, build new integrated basic skills and career training programs, and provide institutional incentives to increase completion through the SBCTC’s Student Achievement Initiative rewards program.
Prior to the regular business meeting, the board will meet with the executive director for dinner on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m., at Mercato Ristorante, 111 Market St NE, Olympia. On Sept. 24, the Board will conduct its annual self-assessment process at 8:30 a.m. at the SBCTC office, Olympus conference room, followed by the Board’s annual retreat from noon on Sept. 24 until Sept. 25 at 10:45 a.m. in the Cascade conference room at the SBCTC office.
