WARP Business Meeting

Centralia College

8:00-9:30 a.m.

MEETING NOTES

1.   Call to Order.  The meeting was called to order by President Maureen Pettitt (Skagit).  See page 3 for a list of participants.

2.      Approval of Meeting Minutes.  Secretary Erika Prager (Green River) distributed the minutes from the April 2002 and October 2002 meetings. The minutes from both meetings were approved as submitted.

3.      Treasurer’s Report.  Mary Ann Medlin (Centralia) reported that the preliminary balance in the treasury was $823.97. She will update this figure once the bills are paid for this meeting. The funds are kept in a separate account at the State Board and can be used for meeting incidentals, speakers, and travel for executive committee members to its summer meeting.

4.      (WACRAO) Representative Report.  Donna Finnegan (Clark) gave a quick WACRAO report on Thursday, March 20 because she would not be attending the business meeting on Friday. She indicated that WACRAO had spent most of its time lately addressing various rehosting issues.

5.      Update on Coding (Stu-Purp-Attend).  Carol O’Connor (Renton) reported that she and Darryl Dieter (Everett) have worked on Stu-Purp-Attend and have a proposal to present. She asked everyone to read through it and discuss it with others on their campuses, then give her feedback by April 30. After making changes, she will ask members of the coding committee and other interested people to pilot the question on their campuses in May or June. She will then incorporate changes and submit final wording to the SBCTC by early August. Loretta Seppanen (SBCTC) has some concerns with the current proposal and has already passed along her comments to Carol and Darryl. Carol left copies of the comments if people were interested in picking them up.

6.      Update on Assessment Instruments.  (Maureen) Pettitt (Skagit) reported that a few people have sent her survey instruments to post on the WARP Web site. Ideally, she would like to post the questionnaires, survey results, and contact person. Doug Whittaker (SBCTC) will give Maureen the 19 additional CCSSE questions to post. Maureen will begin posting what she already has in hopes that it will encourage others to send other items for posting.

7.      New Researcher Handbook/Web Site.  Erika Prager (Green River) reported on the status of the New Researcher Handbook and Web site.  In the fall, members agreed to examine the Web site and the handbook prior to the spring meeting and send suggestions for additions to Erika. So far, she has received very little feedback. A few people indicated that they had looked at it and that it was useful. Erika asked members to send her additional items of interest and she will organize them for posting on the Web site.

8.      Nominations and Elections for President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Nominations were taken for president-elect, secretary, and treasurer.  Valerie Hodge (Bellevue) and Roger Anderson (Edmonds) were nominated for president.  With 26 member institutions voting, Valerie was elected. Valerie Kirkwood (Big Bend) was nominated for secretary. Mary Ann Medlin (Centralia) was nominated for treasurer. With no other nominees for either position, both were elected.

9.      Next Meetings: Fall PNAIRP and Spring Conference Location.  Darryl Dieter (Everett) reported that the Fall PNAIRP meeting would be held in Portland from October 22-24, 2003.  He also asked for volunteers with potential sites for next spring’s meeting. Valerie Hodge (Bellevue) volunteered BCC’s North Campus and the La Quinta Inn in Bellevue. This would be the same arrangement as the 2002 PNAIRP meeting, which worked out pretty well. Because space isn’t an issue at BCC’s North Campus, she is flexible on the dates of the meeting.

10. Other.  Darryl Dieter (Everett) officially took over as WARP president. He thanked Maureen Pettitt (Skagit) for her work as president over the past year and presented her with a gift from the executive committee. He also thanked Erika Prager (Green River) for serving as secretary and Mary Ann Medlin (Centralia) and Jackie Eppler-Clark (SBCTC) for working on the local arrangements for the meeting. Finally, he asked members for ideas on what to focus on for the upcoming year, including ideas for next spring’s meeting.
